Last Wednesday saw the Ardglass 5k & 10k road races part of the local festival, this is a great local event which attracts many local runners. The course is undulating to say the least so PBs would be few and far between. The only East Down vest on the start line for the 5k was Aine Grant with 66 other runners they were off, Aine enjoys this distance and came in 27 min 25 sec 32nd position.
In the 10k EDAC had nine athletes in the mix with 104 other competitors, Alice and Paul Brear-Clarkson were the first over the line, Alice came in first lady with Paul in 41 min 21 sec, great running from these two club members. Just a couple of seconds behind them was James Cuffey now back on the tarmac had another strong race clocking 41 min 24 sec. Deirdre Weatherhall had another great run coming across the line in 45 min 24 sec, another determined run from Deirdre. EDAC stalwart Mark O Connor will be happy with 48 min 16 sec on a tricky route. Was great to see
Kieran Machon back in EDAC colours and coming in 50 min 11 sec, Kieron has always been a great supporter of East Down and all local races. Paddy Smith was the next Red and Yellow vest over the line, again Paddy supports all the local events and Park runs and will be happy with his time of 53 min 39 sec. Carmel Ross has not raced for a little while, but it is great to see this determined athlete back on the road and came in 55 min 24 sec 82nd position, not far behind Carmel was Joanne Carson, another stalwart of the club will be happy with her nights efforts, clocking 56 min 10 sec. Well done to the organizing team for a great family event.
