Maurice Mullins 50k Ultra
On Saturday morning East Down AC very own mountain man Niall Gibney made the early morning trip down the road to Wicklow to take on the Maurice Mullins 50 k Ultra. This is an out and back race from Pier Gates overlooking Lough Tay (aka “the Guinness Lake”) along the Wicklow way to Glencullen. This was a slightly different route from previous years, as IMRA organisers adding Djouce mountain into the outward and return route, which added to the 6,640 feet of elevation. Niall was aiming for a time of under six hours and paced his run to a tee and came in 5 hrs 58 for the 50 km. He did say after that it would take a couple of days for his legs to recover, I hope he took a dip in the Guinness lake to aid in his recovery.
