HILL & DALE 2

On another idyllic Thursday evening Round 2 of the Hill and Dales took place in Tollymore Forest Park.  A dozen East Down members took part with all from the first race returning and some extras making the start to swell the ranks, though overall numbers were down from an incredible 324 last week to 288 this. Nevertheless an unbelievable number of runners from all back grounds and genres took advantage of the Spring like weather to enjoy the beauty of Tollymore at its best. Gavin Hynds with another great run improved on his Castlewellan placing, moving up to 29th position. Next in line was Dee Murray who was

in 34th place. Niall Gibney managed a 50th slot getting in ahead of Niamh Kellett who scored a second consecutive win in the F35 category. Stephen Heasley in 64th place was a mere 2 seconds behind Niamh. Jonny Kelly (127th)  was happy to be taking part as was Paddy McDonald in 161st. John Manley squeezed in just ahead of Brian Hamilton (171) who again put his name on the MV70 top rank with his second category win.  Lisa Milligan ran well to come 173rd and Seamus Savage having barely recovered from the week before returned to give it another go and did well to take 212th place.  Janine Murray having sat out Round One was in the mix in 252nd place with Patricia Galloway not far behind. It is great to see the numbers high at this series and also to see the introduction of a Junior Series.

BALLYGALGET COMMUNITY 10K and 5K FUN RUN

Donal Smith and his sister Suzy took the sea air and headed for the Ballygalget Fun Run on Easter Sunday morning. They both enjoyed the race and the good spread that was on offer and have vowed to go back to do the 10K next year! I hope a lot of their club mates will join them.

NEXT WEEK

Next Sunday will focus all eyes on the London Marathon in which several East Down runners will be taking part. Best wishes are sent from all in EDAC not only to our own members but to all those from the other athletics and running clubs in the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area. We hope that all goes well for every one of you and that you achieve your target time. Most of all, enjoy the experience.
